Letter to At-Large Ward Director Antwan Phillips

Copy the letter below

Dear At-Large Ward Director Antwan Phillips,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my strong support for the city's efforts to close the loop on the Arkansas River Trail. As a resident of Little Rock, I believe that completing this trail is a crucial step in enhancing our city's recreational offerings, promoting active lifestyles, and fostering community connectivity.

“Closing the Loop” refers to making the section of the Arkansas River Trail between Gill Street (to the west) and North Street (to the east) a safe corridor for traveling by foot or bicycle. This section is currently unsafe with a too narrow sidewalk and multiple busy street and entrance crossings. It has not had a substantial upgrade to be considered a part of the Arkansas River Trail which opened over 20 years ago.

The Arkansas River Trail is already a cherished asset to our city, attracting residents and visitors alike to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational opportunities along the river. However, the incomplete loop presents a barrier to fully experiencing the trail's potential. Closing the loop would not only provide a seamless pathway for walkers, runners, and cyclists but also improve access to the riverfront and surrounding neighborhoods.

Furthermore, completing the Arkansas River Trail loop aligns with our city's goals of promoting sustainable transportation and outdoor recreation. Encouraging residents to walk or bike along the trail reduces carbon emissions, eases traffic congestion, and promotes healthier lifestyles. By investing in green infrastructure like the Arkansas River Trail, we demonstrate our commitment to building a more vibrant and sustainable city for future generations.

Moreover, closing the loop on the trail presents opportunities for community engagement and collaboration. I believe that involving local stakeholders, including residents, businesses, advocacy groups, and government agencies, in the planning and decision-making process will ensure that the completed trail meets the diverse needs and interests of our community.

In conclusion, I urge you to continue your support for closing the loop on the Arkansas River Trail. By doing so, we can create a more accessible, connected, and vibrant city for all residents to enjoy.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter, and please let me know if there is any way I can assist in advocating for the completion of the Arkansas River Trail loop.

Sincerely,
